As Sachin Tendulkar turns 40, the mountain of statistics he’s created continues to grow higher. He’s played 198 Tests and retired from one-dayers after 463 games. Here’s a list of some of the special statistical highlights of his career.

Test numbers:

** Has appeared in more matches (198) than any other player in Test history
** He has batted in 327 Test innings, the most by any Test player
** He has scored 15827 Test runs, by far the most by any Test player
** He has hit 2045 fours, which is the most by a cricketer in Tests
** His tally of 51 hundreds is by a large margin the most hundreds by a player in Tests
** He has to his credit 67 fifties, the most half-centuries in Test cricket
** Tendulkar has an astronomical 118 scores of 50 or more in the five-day version alone
** Away from home Tendulkar has scored 8705 runs, the most by any player
** Twenty-nine of his 51 Test hundreds have come “away” from home – also a Test record
** No other player has scored as many runs as a “teenager”. The little master has 1522 to his credit
** The 1522 runs as a teenager include 5 Test hundreds – a feat yet to be bettered
** Between the ages 19y-217d and 38y-198d, Tendulkar became the youngest to reach all the milestones between 1000 and 15000 runs (with the lone exception of 7000 Test runs)
** He has scored a 1000+ Test runs in a calendar year six times – more than any other batsman
** He has the unique distinction of reaching a Test century with a “six” on six separate occasions.

One-Day International numbers:

** He has played more One-Day International matches (463 matches) than any other player
** He has batted more innings (452 innings) than any player in ODIs
** The 18426 ODI runs he has scored is the most any player has scored in the one-day version
** He has faced an astronomical 21367 balls, more than any player has in this format
** He has hit the maximum of 2016 fours in this format
** Tendulkar has to his credit 49 One-Day hundreds, by far the most by any ODI batsman
** He has scored more ODI fifties (96) than any other player
** He has 145 50+ scores in the limited-overs version – more than any other player
** He holds the record of the most ODI scores in the nineties (18)
** He has three scores of 99 which is also the most by a player in ODIs
** He has scored 1000+ ODI runs against eight opponents – a unique feat
** He has scored 1500+ ODI runs against six different opponents
** No other player has 2000+ ODI runs against four different opponents in ODIs
** His 3113 runs against Sri Lanka is the highest by any player against one opponent
** He also has to his credit the most runs against Australia (3077)
** He has scored nine ODI hundreds against Australia – the most by any player in ODIs against a single opponent
** He has picked up the most MoM awards in ODIs: 62
** Tendulkar has bagged 15 Man of the Series awards in ODIs — far more than any other player
** He has scored the most ODI runs ever in a calendar year – 1894 runs in the year 1998
** He also has to his name the record of most centuries in a calendar year. He scored nine in 1998
** He has been a part of the most (99) 100+ partnerships in ODIs – the most by any player
** Tendulkar appeared in a record 185 consecutive ODI appearances from April 1990 to April 1998
