  Commentary

  • That's all from us ladies and gentlemen. Do come back for the next game tomorrow. Till then, have a good time.

  • Gambhir bowlers knock Hyderabad out in rain hit Eliminator

Kolkata attack does well to keep 2016 champions to 128 for 7 before captain weathers early collapse to chase down 48 in six overs

  • Nathan Coulter-Nile (MoM): (On his head injury) A little bit better now. I went to bed at 10 pm and woke up at 7 pm next day. Was feeling a bit lethargic. (On pitch): This is the exact opposite of Kolkata. there you get good pace and bounce, here it was low and slow. All of our bowlers bowled good. Not letting them go off a flier was fantastic. I thin intensity started with first over with David Warner playing and missing. It just kept raining and raining we got a little bit itchy. We will just try to sleep, recover and come out tomorrow.

  • Gautam Gambhir: A lot of credit goes to the bowler. They set the game up for us. They set it up for us. We just needed to be a bit sensibly. There have been times when we lacked the intensity. Every run you stop is the run you have to score less - that's what we discussed. On this pitch, if you aim180, you can get out on 120-130. (On rain break): You do get nervous, we worked really hard and it would have been really unfair. 128 was an unbelievable effort. Our bowlers really dig deep. (On Mumbai): They are a quality side and have beaten us twice. Hopefully, we can give them one back.

  • Player of the match - Nathan Coulter-Nile

  • David Warner: We were 30 runs short. It was a tough wicket to bat on. The ball was holding up a bit. And they bowled really well. The six-over game can be a really difficult one, but we came out with positive intent. We took three wickets up front. I think we played some good cricket (this season), we batted and bowled well this year. Thanks to all the people who came out to support us.

  • That's it! Kolkata sealed their spot for the Qualifier 2 and will face Mumbai. Hyderabad, on the other hand, would be disappointed regarding how things unfolded tonight but they couldn't have done anything else, perhaps, other than putting a bigger total on the board. But that's all hindsight.

  Full commentary

  • So, the play will start in about 10 minutes. 6 overs, target 48. A powerplay of 2 overs.

  • The players are back on the field. Tom Moody had a very close look at the pitch, sort of pressing it with his hands. Hopefully, the match will restart soon.

  • The next inspection is at 12.35 am.

  • "The umpires are out for a check. The covers are coming off," informs Roshan.

  • Roshan: "The umpires came out for a check at 11.35 pm. The rain had subsided then. But it's gaining strength now. The covers remain." So not so good news from the centre. Also, the overs will start reducing from now onwards.

  • Once again, to remind you all:

  • Latest update from the ground: The rain has started again and the covers are back on.

  • So the subsurface aeration showed its true ability. Three super soppers did the rest to soak up whatever was left.

  • If play starts at 12:58 am: KKR's target 41 in 5 overs

  • My colleague, Roshan, has further updates from the ground: Time cut-offs are 11.50pm for full 20 overs, 12.58am for 5 overs and 1.20am for Super Over.

  • If Super Over is also not possible, the team that finished highest in the league table shall be declared the winner - which is Hyderabad in this case.

  • If it is not possible to schedule a 5 over match, the teams will play a Super Over to determine the winner.

  • This is what IPL Playing Conditions say about playoffs: No reserve day but an extra time of 120 minutes is available. The latest a five overs per side match can start is 12.26am (10 minute interval, no timeouts) – with a scheduled finish of 1.20am.

  • My colleague Roshan, who is at the stadium, updates about the rain: Heavy wind and rain. It doesn't look like it's going to calm down anytime soon. Not the type that gets blown away.

  • Dhawan and Warner started slowly before the former got out in the fifth over. Warner (37 off 35) and Williamson (24 off 26) steadied the ship but both lost their wickets in order to increase the run rate. Vijay Shankar (22 of 17) hit some meaty blows but wickets kept falling at the regular intervals. Coulter-Nile (3 for 20) and Umesh Yadav (2 for 21) were the picks of the bowlers for Kolkata as Hyderabad could manage only 128 from their 20 overs.

  • And it is drizzling as groundsman come running in with the covers. Hopefully, the strong wind will take the clouds away and we can have the full game.

  • Here is Roshan Thyagarajan's preview:

  • IPL 10 Eliminator Hyderabad v Kolkata

Both teams have tricky selection calls to make but for the defending champions the main task will be to break the Lynn Narine partnership quickly

  • Hello and welcome to the Eliminator of IPL 2017. This is Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The team that wins today will face Mumbai a day after in the Qualifier 2. The head-to-head record though is in Kolkata's favour, having won 7 matches out 11 played against Hyderabad.

  Full commentary
