Rohit Sharma and Kedar Jadhav have been ruled out of the three-team Deodhar Trophy 50-over tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Thursday (March 23).

Harbhajan Singh will now lead India Blue in the absence of Rohit, who has suffered a minor knee injury and has been advised rest by the BCCI medical team.

Jadhav, who was a part of the Parthiv Patel-led India Red side, has been laid low by a stomach ailment and will now miss the tournament, which will be played at Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam from March 25 to 29.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the 20-year-old right-hand batsman from Maharashtra, was named as the replacement for Rohit after a great run in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy 2016-17, where he scored 444 runs in seven matches at an average of 63.42.

Hyderabad cricketer Chama Milind, who was a part of the Indian 2014 Under-19 World Cup team, brought his good Ranji Trophy 2016-17 form to the Hazare Trophy, scoring 101 runs and picking up 13 wickets. He was added to the India Red squad along with Shreevats Goswami, the Bengal wicketkeeper-batsman, who scored 345 runs in the Hazare Trophy as his side reached the final before losing to Tamil Nadu, the third side in the Deodhar Trophy.

Rohit only returned to competitive cricket earlier this month with scores of 16 and 4 for Mumbai against Andhra and Goa in the Hazare Trophy. He had to go under the knife for a right upper quadriceps tendon condition in early November in London, and underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore after that.

In another update, Shreyas Iyer has been pulled out of the India Blue squad after being called up as cover for the injured Virat Kohli for the deciding fourth Test against Australia, starting in Dharamsala on Saturday.

Tamil Nadu announce squad
Vijay Shankar, the experienced allrounder, will continue to lead Tamil Nadu, but they will be without B Aparajith, the middle-order batsman, and Aswin Crist, the right-arm pacer, after the two were included in the Indian squad for the Asian Cricket Council Under-23 Emerging Teams Cup in Bangladesh.

L Suryapprakash, the right-hand batsman, and J Kousik, the right-arm paceman, will replace the two.

S Radhakrishnan, the India U-19 player, too has been left out from the squad.
