A World Cup, a high-profile Test match and two One-Day Internationals – one starting late in the evening, Indian time — were some of the cricketing events on Thursday (July 6), but we just have to start with this bit of action from English domestic cricket.

As Sam Billings rightly captions it, this is the best celebration ever.

Now, over to Lord’s, which is hosting the first Test between England and South Africa. As is the case with Test matches at Lord’s, there was considerable excitement – from players, commentators, and also those who weren’t in action.

It was a proud moment for Joe Root, James Taylor and Isa Guha, for entirely different reasons.

But once the hype gave way to the action, England’s excitement waned as South Africa’s pacers got going.

Meanwhile, Brendon McCullum was worried about the bigger picture – England’s future after the James Anderson-Stuart Broad era….

… while Kevin Pietersen was worried about Rhinos’ future.

No such worries for Rohit Sharma and David Warner though, who were enjoying time out with family.

And finally, let’s wish Makhaya Ntini – or is it Makhaya Nitin? – a happy birthday
