An absorbing first day’s play in the third Test between India and Sri Lanka on Saturday (August 12) kept the Twitter scoreboard ticking over. But the day had started on a sombre note, with India mourning the tragedy in Gorakhpur.

Over in England, Surrey was gearing up for a charity match to benefit rhinos.

Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul came in for praise after a sparkling show against the Sri Lankans.

Rahul found himself in a unique position where he commanded praise for seven consecutive fifties, but also gentle criticism for his failure to convert any of those innings into triple figures.

While the openers did a fine job for India on the day, Virender Sehwag – one of India’s shoo-in openers in an all-time XI – recalled a rare embarrassing ‘achievement’, with his characteristic dash of humour.

But Sri Lanka fought back impressively, and were duly acknowledged.

And, Tim Bresnan produced a special spell of 6 for 19 to bowl Yorkshire to a 19-run win over Lancashire in the Natwest T20 Blast.

It can be tough to find motivation to pursue those fitness goals over the weekend. These clips by Chris Tremlett and Umar Akmal might help.
