When in full flow, Robin Uthappa bats like a millionaire and is a delight to watch – his topping the batting-charts for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 IPL and Karnataka in the 2013-14 Vijay Hazare Trophy being cases in point. But the same quality has meant that curbing his aggressive instincts when needed does not come naturally to him. Having rectified the loophole in his play, he dismantled his technique under the guidance of Pravin Amre and rebuilt his game from scratch. The rewards were immediate, as he returned to the Indian One-Day team after six years. He was in the running to make it to India’s 2015 World Cup squad, but narrowly missed out. Uthappa made his ODI debut in 2006 and was a part of the 2007 World Twenty20 victory, but has so far played only represented India 54 times.
