Sri Lanka pulled off an exciting five-wicket win over Pakistan in their ICC Women’s World Cup Super Six stage match played at the NCC Grounds in Maitland Place on Wednesday (15).
Pakistan put into bat reached a healthy 212 for seven from their 50 overs thanks to two fighting half centuries from Nahida Khan (64) and Javeria Khan (63).
But Sri Lanka responded magnificently and produced a superb batting display to overtake their opponents total with 14 deliveries to spare.
Sri Lanka’s run chase was spearheaded by Eshani Kaushalya who hammered an unbeaten 65 from 75 balls inclusive of eight boundaries.
She received good support from Prasadani Weerakkody (45), Nipuni Hansika (37) and Chamari Atapattu (35).
Meanwhile, India moved closer towards gaining a place in the World Cup with am impressive 49-run win over South Africa at the P. Sara Stadium.
India were restricted to 205 for eight from their 50 overs but their bowlers hit back strongly by dismissing their opponents for 156 in 46.4 overs.
